2017 was, for many people, a crazy year. Between fires, floods, and a news cycle that never seemed to turn off, reality has been hitting hard recently. Fortunately for us, 2017 may have been one of the best years in gaming history.
Whether you are a video game fan or a board game hobbyist, this was a year that had a non-stop drip of amazing games. On the video games side, the Nintendo Switch took the year by storm early, and amazing games such as Horizon Zero Dawn surprised everyone with having both great story and gameplay. The onslaught of great games never relented, with indie wonders such as Hob coming out mid year, and titanic franchises returning with Mario Odyssey and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. Board games had plenty of their own surprises, with the 20+ pound titan Gloomhaven being a Kickstarter hit that hasn't been able to stay in print all year long. The fun didn't stop there, with games such as Spirit Island flying off the shelves, and the amazingly engaging Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 capturing people's attention for months at a time.
It is impossible to make a true 'best of' list for 2017, simply because there were too many great choices, too many fantastic options for any one person to play all of them. So in this podcast, myself, Eric, and Adam choose three each in both catagories that have stuck with us at the end of the year. We hope you enjoy the last podcast of the year! What were your favorites of 2017?
