Alright, shameless plug here for a game I've been following that looks absolutely amazing. Also, shame-filled admittance - for all of my love of fantasy and Dungeons and Dragons, sometimes that idea of grand space battles is just what hits the spot. Unfortunately, its also a game style that usually needs a lot more graphical firepower and support than a lot of indie games, espcially if you want to make it a massively multiplayer style affair.

Insert Novus Aeterno, and insert kickstarter.

Unless you are that ship in the middle getting blown up. If you are, you probably want to be doing anything else at the moment.

Novus Aeterno is one of those games that I honestly feel like couldn't quite get off the ground without something like crowdfunding, and is a testament to the opportunity that can be found in this method of fundraising. Its a huge, massive, very expansive game that is trying to also be very player-friendly and filled with some really good lore and basic mechanics that aren't all just about headshotting. Its trying to be a game you play for the long haul, but it also doesn't quite fit into any of the fields that are currently out there. It seems like its resting quite comfortably between the complexity and player negotiating hell of EVE Online and the fun of controlling your own armies and portions of space like Sins of a Solar Empire. Sounds good in my book.

I really hope guys like this are on my team.

Want in? I do - I've already kicked this one, and am eagerly awaiting the chance to alpha test this game and write about how many times I'm probably going to get backstabbed while making allies out there in the cruel universe. It got me thinking - and this is probably a long shot, but if anyone else out there kicks it, maybe we could do a Sprites and Dice alliance, see if we can get a solar system or two under our belt...huh, huh? What'd you say, us versus a few hundred other groups for control of a galaxy, I'm sure nothing can go wrong.

In all honesty, I'd love to have some backup, and use it as an excuse to explore player interaction in a world that's meant to cause conflict and power struggle.

You can kickstart the project here, and see what they are offering. Or, if you want to see the really cool fluff and backgrounds they've been working on, check out their website at Novusaeterno.com
