Some fans of the world's best video game-themed card game have stepped up to help new and new-ish players get into the arena. Whether you've never heard of Exceed Fighting System before, or you know how to play but aren't very good at it (*raises hand*), or even if you're confident in your skills and just want to practice some new matchups, the Exceed Mentor Tournament welcomes you to come and learn.
Briefly, here's how it works:
- You'll be assigned a mentor whom you'll work with for 5 weeks
- Starting the 2nd week of mentoring you'll play in an open league against other mentees. You'll earn points for how many matches you play (max 3 per week), and how many games you win during that time
- Your points seed you in a single-elimination tournament with (small) cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
So you'll learn, practice, and then compete in a chill, low-stakes tourney.
In order to compete you'll need Tabletop Simulator as well as the XFS Balanced Breakfast module (it's the TTS mod of choice for playing Exceed). You'll also want to join this Discord server, which is central command for this tournament and other fan-made Exceed events—and a generally nice place to hang out.
Detailed rules and a link to the signup form can be found on this Google Doc. Signups are officially open until this Wednesday, June 15th, but late entries are allowed up through July 3rd (the start of week 3).
I've already signed up to git gud, so I hope to see you there!
Also, side note: This whole setup is a GREAT idea for attracting new players. Why don't we do this for more games?
