Something Shiny:
Hero Forge on Kickstarter. Want to make your own model? That's cool

Hero Forge

Well, damnit. Now I'm going to be broke again.

Hero Forge is going to be one of those things that revolutionizes tabletops, if its executed right. Its a heady mixture of independent creativity and not having to buy your own 3D printer. The chance to, with a little bit of money, to buy that perfect miniature you've always wanted. For what? Well, that's the beauty of it. Do you play Dungeons and Dragons? Pathfinder? White Wolf? ...Any role-playing game ever? Maybe you want a model to substitute as your own personal favorite in a war-game that you play casually. Maybe you just want something that looks freaking amazing and can paint up to put on your shelf at work or home.

Some things give pause - from the price of the Kickstarter tiers, this isn't exactly going to be a cheap service. Its also untested, as this is the first service of its kind that will hit the market. However, what it does have going for it is that they have already proven that they know how to make things look nice, and they know how to put on a good presentation.

I mean, seriously.

I look at this, and part of me hesitates, wondering if the cost will be worth it. How much is it truly worth to be able to create miniatures the way I want them to be? But then I remember that I'm a gamer, and one that's been playing games like this for over a decade. Then I remember that there are hundreds and thousands of other tabletop and wargamers more fanatical than I am. Then I look at how many options they are adding - spell effects of your choice, more than just three poses, science fiction... and then I look at how this thing has doubled its goal with more than fifteen days left...

These are just the examples, just the examples! What elsecan there be...damnit, I'm buying into this, aren't I?

...and then I sigh, and pull out my wallet, caught between a grimace and a very excited grin.

The Kickstarter is here, and seriously, if you play any tabletop games, or like having something that's yours on your shelf... check it out. You'll probably find it worth it too.
